Later Crater - Coastal Wanderings, Part 2 of 2, 10.11.18 - 10.14.18

Our final full day of sightseeing had us stopping at assorted pullouts and beaches to see what there was to see. The coastal temps were in the lower 70’s and we were just so grateful for all the wonderful weather we had this entire trip.

The coast was clearly more popular than the mountains and we were a little more concerned about finding placed to stay. Several of the campgrounds were closed for the season and one that we had hoped to stay at was full. Not wanting to sleep in a Wal-Mart parking lot, we bravely pushed on. At Cape Perpetua there were a million runners doing a trail marathon so it was a bit of a zoo there. One of the park rangers gave us some suggestions so we drove up to one called Beachside. It was already one or so in the afternoon and she only had a couple of sites left. One was taken before she finished telling us about it, another was a disgusting little spot next to the office. Then she said she had a cancellation on site 73 so we drove over to it. It turned out to be on the lane right next to the beach. People typically reserve these sites nine months in advance if they are lucky enough to even get through and the lady told us it was like winning the lottery to have gotten that site on the spot. We could see the ocean waves right from the RV and slept to the sound of the pounding surf. After so much running around, we decided to spend the rest of the day just sitting on the beach by our site and then watch the sun set on the Pacific Ocean. And that’s what we did.

It was so great seeing all these wonderful sights with my dear wife, but to share it with her AND my great friends Mike and Harry made it even better. Bridgit has spent enough time with both of these incredible people that she has morphed from what started as being “my friend’s wife” to being just one of the guys, which is truly a testament to her charm.
