Switzerland, 9.6.16 - 9.17.16, Part 7 of 13: Return To Grindelwald

As Bob and I trekked into the untamed wilderness to map the unknown ridge to the west, Bridgit, Gina and Dana had opted to return to Grindelwald via the ascent route we took the previous day.

Last look at The Faulhorn. Bob and I are the two dots on the trail heading into uncharted territory.

As they came within close view of the Bachalpsee, Bridgit could tell that the skies were much clearer than when we were hiking up the day before. Knowing I would have wished for the iconic photograph of the Shreckhorn and Finsteraarehorn reflected in the lake, she bolted down the trail hoping against hope that conditions would be favorable.

As nice a spot to sit as there is

As she arrived at the Bachalpsee, not only had the clouds dissipated, but the breezes had calmed and the surface of the lake while not glass, certainly held a good reflection. Like the amazing wife she is, she pulled out her trusty iPhone, took numerous shots, keeping her eye on the leveling grid, keeping the horizon away from the center and making sure the peak tops were captured in both the sky and the reflection. The end result is that she totally got the money shot and she could not wait to show it to me. I was thrilled beyond belief. She is actually getting a very good eye for composition and iPhones are a wonderful and powerful tool that when used well can reap great results.

Arriving back at the First station and with time to burn, Bridgit had to give zip lining a try. And why not? Could there possibly be more beautiful scenery to look at while flying down a mountain hanging from a piece of wire?

Meanwhile, Bob and I pulled into the Grindelwald Station around 4PM and walked the half mile to our hotel where we met up with the rest of the team. After our mind-boggling two day adventure to The Faulhorn, we decided to stay in and had dinner at the hotel that night. It was a delicious meal and it left us plenty of time to hang on our cozy balcony staring at the biggest mountains I had ever seen and feeling pretty darn lucky.

Medallions of beef, roasted potatoes, green beans and I forgot what they were called (maybe chard?)

Dessert of coffee ice cream with a cinnamon cookie, fresh fig and whipped cream

This concludes Part 7. Next up is Part 8: The Jungfraujoch.
